When people want to express their relation to certain idea, to manifest or protest for or against something, they often create a human hands chain. Holding their hands, they spread across the streets, squares, towns. Our chain of human hands will be 40 075 kilometres long, the same length as the circuit of the Earth around the Equator; and it will cross all countries in the world.

The idea of the project is to create of a symbolic chain of human hands that goes around the whole globe. It’s supposed to stimulate positive thinking and help building the global social awareness, open mindedness and friendship between the nations.
Practical realization of the project means to paint 40 075 pieces of pictures, sized 20 x 20 cm, and collect them in Slovakia. Pictures will be painted by artists and celebrities from all around the world, each country in the world.

Main organiser of the project is Andrej Smolák Gallery Snina – Bratislava.
Financial guarantee of the project is ART.EAST Foundation, to which account all sponsorship and voluntary financial contribution will be transferred.
Author of the project
Andrej Smolák
(1953 Humenné, Slovakia)Painter and gallerist
(1953, Humenne) – painter and gallerist. He holds a degree from the Visual Arts Department of the University in Presov and in 1989, he also studied at the Visual Arts Academy in Prague. He has been self employed as a free lance artist since 1985 and has been managing the Andrej Smolak Gallery in Snina since 1993. He ran a gallery in Bratislava during 1998-2007. Andrej is a founder of International Painting Festival in Snina. He received a Franz Kafka European Award (1988), European Union Art Award (2002) as well as international Salvator Dali Award (2003) and in 2006, he received a honorary art award from the Art and Culture Association in Marigliano, Italy. In 2004, he opened a private primary art school. He is the administrator of ART.EAST foundation and founded KREMENEC foundation in 2007 to support the culture of Ruthenians. In 2010, he was appointed the honorary member of the International Culture and Art Academy in Moscow.
